CHICKEN POX SCARS - Dr Anvika

CHICKEN POX SCARS

WHY DO CHICKEN POX LEAVES SCARS?

Chicken pox is a viral infection. At chicken pox rashes, localized proliferation of virus destroys the underlying skin, which heals by scarring.
HOW CAN THEIR OCCURANCE BE PREVENTED?

Treat it early is the mantra. And don’t let rashes be infected if bacterial infection occurs and rashes turn into pus forming ones, scars would certainly be formed. So start anti -viral medications after consulting a physician as soon as chicken pox is suspected. Delay in consulting the physician and thus in starting the medicine is the major cause of chicken pox leaving scars, because by that time skin destruction would have occurred. Also do apply the anti bacterial ointment prescribed by your doctor on rashes without fail so that further infection and further destruction is prevented.

HOW CAN THEY BE TREATED?

There are two types of scars left by chicken pox.

Black marks: Skin turns black but not depressed. Skin lightening creams prescribed by dermatologist would help.

Punched out scars: Few sessions of fractional radiofrequency done by the doctor would reduce their appearance by up to 60-70%.

WON’T CREAMS WORK?
No. Destroyed collagen (collagen is the building blocks of the skin) needs to be broken and be replaced by new collagen. Only this can lead to reduction in their appearance. No amount of creams can do this job since they cannot penetrate deep enough in the skin to bring about the desired results. Scar reduction creams just don’t work.

HOW DOES FRACTIONAL RADIOFREQUENCY WORK?
Radiofrequency boosts skin to make new collagen. Also it breaks old torn collagen. New collagen slowly replaces the old collagen.New collagen being firm gradually tightens the skin and fills the skin from beneath leading to decreased appearance of scars.

HOW MANY SESSIONS ARE REQUIRED?
Around 6 sessions scheduled at once a month interval are generally required.
WHAT KIND OF RESULT CAN ONE EXPECTS?
A reduction up to 60-70% can be expected after desired number of sessions is done.
IS IT SAFE?
Yes, absolutely provided done by a doctor using US FDA approved machines. Also remember the fact that radiofrequency doesn’t penetrate beyond skin so all internal organs are rendered safe.
IS IT PAINFUL?
Since done after application of numbing cream, procedure is rendered pretty comfortable for everyone.

FOR HOW LONG DOES THE RESULTS LAST?
Results once obtained are permanent.
ARE THEIR ANY LONG TERM SIDE EFFECTS?

No. Health first, beauty later. All these cosmetic treatments only after decades of research and after being found safe for long term on human beings  get US - FDA approval. Thus they all are safe and don’t have any short term or long term side effects.

ARE THEIR ANY PRECAUTIONS POST PROCEDURES?

Regular use of moisturizers and sunscreens for few weeks is advised post procedure.

HOW MUCH TIME DOES EACH SESSION TAKE?

When person walks into the clinic, numbing cream is applied for an hour. Post that radiofrequency shots are given all over chicken pox scars which takes around 20 to 30 minutes depending upon the number of scars. Post which person can return home.

IS THEIR ANY DOWNTIME / POST TREATMENT HEALING TIME?
Mild swelling and redness appears post procedure which completely wanes off in an hour.
